Taxes

Every product line the shop sells carries a tax rate.

Every product line the shop sells carries a tax rate. At the till, Beelocity works it out for you: the register resolves each line’s rate through the product’s tax class, at the rate in force on the day of the sale — nothing is keyed by hand at the counter. On sales documents built back-office — quotations, orders, invoices, credit notes — the rate is still entered on the line when you add it, so check it there the way you check the price.

The three classes you start with

Every organization begins with the Algerian VAT set, under Inventory → Tax Classes:

Class Rate Use it for
TVA 19 % (standard rate) 19 % Most goods and services — the default
TVA 9 % (reduced rate) 9 % The essentials list: certain foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals, and the other reduced-rate categories
Exempt 0 % Exempt goods: subsidized staples (bread, milk, semolina), exports

A product with no class of its own follows the default class — TVA 19 % out of the box — so everything sells at the standard rate until you say otherwise. To sell milk at 0 % or medicine at 9 %, open the product and pick the class on its form; the till picks the change up immediately.

When a rate changes

Rates are dated. When a finance law changes a rate, do not edit the old one: close its window (set its end date) and add a new rate from the day the law applies. Sales from before the change keep their old rate on record — every ticket and invoice line remembers the rate it was actually charged with — and new sales use the new one automatically from the effective day.

Two rates of one class can never cover the same day; Beelocity refuses the save rather than guess which one you meant.

What shows where

  • The Tax Classes page can be narrowed with the filter button to the Default class or to Active / retired ones (see Working with lists).
  • Each class’s Rates tab holds its whole history, newest first.
  • The product form shows the class (blank = default), with a link to it.
  • Every ticket line, order line and invoice line prints the rate and the tax amount it was charged with — the record of what was collected, ready for a VAT declaration by rate and period.
